Asus Transformer Book 13 inch hybrid notebook/tablet now available for $1499

The Asus Transformer Book TX300CA-DH71 is a notebook with a 13.3 inch display and an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor. It’s also a 13.3 inch tablet — all you have to do is lift the screen away from the Asus Keyboard to use the Windows 8 computer in tablet mode.

First introduced about a year ago, the Transformer Book  is finally available for purchase in the US today. You can pick one up from Amazon for $1499. Other retailers are selling for $1450 and up.

The Transformer Book has an Intel Core i7-3517U dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state disk. It features a 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD display and Intel HD graphics and Asus Keyboard Cover  .

The tablet portion of the laptop measures 13.4″ x 8.4″ x 0.4″ and weighs about 2.1 pounds. That makes it kind of hefty for a tablet. But if you’re looking for something larger and more powerful than the Clover Trail-based Windows 8 tablets flooding the market this year, the Transformer Book might fit the bill.

When you combine the laptop keyboard and tablet to make a laptop, the system measures 13.3″ x 9.4″ x 1″ and weighs 4.2 pounds.

In laptop mode, you also get an extra battery, a 500GB hard drive, and extra ports, as well as backlit keyboard and nice big touchpad like the Lenovo Thinkpad X Series X200s Keyboard .
