The Droid Razr MAXX 4G is basically a thicker twin of the Motorola Droid Razr 4G handset that was intentionally designed to be the slimmest smartphone ever built. The problem with that ultra-skinny and sexy looking handset was poor battery life. At the behest of their customers who stated their love for the features on the Droid Razr, and their lack of love for its battery performance, Motorola developed the Droid Razr MAXX. Increasing battery size by 85% with the 3,300 mA battery on board the Droid Razr MAXX, and keeping all the high end features of the skinny original, has led to a handset which has quickly become a flagship phone for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.
The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX delivers a full 21.5 hours of talk time or 15 hours of video playback from a single charge. That is nearly 3 times the 8 hour average offered by the typical 4G handset. And while the battery has been bulked up considerably, the handset is still thinner than the majority of 4G handsets, at only 0.35 inches (8.99 mm) thick. A fast processor and high res screen are also present, as is high resolution video capture and protective screen overlay. But the Droid Razr MAXX can also act as a Desktop PC, Laptop PC or Multimedia Station when using two accessories specially built for the handset.
Motorola has designed what they call an HD Station for the Droid Razr MAXX 4G that allows you to hook the powerful processor in the handset up to a keyboard, mouse and a large screen HDTV. This delivers a desktop experience supported by cloud computing services that let you run Android applications and surf the web using Motorola’s WebTop browser. There are also three USB ports on the optional HD Station accessory, enhancing connectivity options.
The second Motorola accessory created for the Droid Razr MAXX 4G Android handset that delivers PC functionality is the Lapdock 100. This multifunctional accessory turns the 4.3 inch screen of the Droid Razr MAXX into a 10.1 inch screen with full QWERTY laptop keyboard and trackpad, just like you find on a laptop. And on top of the incredible 21.5 hours of run time, the Lapdock 100 has a built-in battery that adds five hours of power to the Droid Razr MAXX. And the laptop creation is lighter and smaller than most laptops on the market.
Not just a PC hybrid, the Droid Razr MAXX still delivers 1,080P HD video recording, 540 x 960 pixel resolution to the 4.3 inch screen on the handset, and a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. A speedy 1.2 GHz central processor joins a graphics dedicated chip and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory in the hardware package, and the Droid Razr MAXX delivers the most out-of-the-box, user accessible storage of any 4G smartphone, with 16 GB built in and a removable 16 GB memory card shipping with the handset.
