What ever happened to that 'Padfone' ASUS showed us early in 2011? ASUS has been busy making some hefty headlines lately after the announcement of the ASUS Transformer Prime launching in December, and pre-orders almost sold-out from the early demand. Now, we'll finally be able to see what the next ASUS tablet has to offer us, which is another very creative and different design.
The ASUS Padfone is, well you probably guessed it, a tablet device with a smartphone that docks within it. Similar to the same type of idea that the Motorola Atrix had with docking the smartphone onto a laptop dock, and the ASUS Transformer and Transformer Prime with docking the tablet onto a keyboard dock, the Padfone actually docks the smartphone inside the tablet. This idea may seem hard for some to digest, but when you think about when you use a tablet and when you use a smartphone, the idea seems more and more appealing (at least to me anyway).
The ASUS Padfone will be launched at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 from February 27th - March 1st in Barcelona. Nicole Scott sat with Engadget recently and let the bird out of the bag on what she knew to be reliable sources, and explained that ASUS plans on launching the device at MWC 2012. To top it off, the ASUS Padfone will have the latest NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor within it as well, just like it's brother Transformer Prime.
As a recap, the ASUS Padfone will also have a MicroSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, bluetooth 2.1, a 5megapixel rear camera, with front facing 2 megapixel camera, and 10.1 inch display size. The smartphone will dock inside the tablet device as shown in the picture above. The tablet will be able to charge the smartphone when it's docked as well, giving you extended Asus Laptop Battery life for those long calls and Angry Birds domination.
No word on price or launch dates yet, but that is also expected at MWC 2012. Here's a video of the ASUS Padfone to help.
