Acer has revealed their Windows 8 lineup at IFA 2012 which includes a pair of Ultrabooks which all have Compatible Parts , a standard notebook, an all-in-one system, a standard tablet and a tablet / PC hybrid. All of these systems are expected to launch in October alongside Microsoft’s release of Windows 8.
The Aspire S7 Ultrabook, described by The Verge as “a revelation”, will be available with an 11.6-inch (and/or 13.3-inch depending on which report you read) touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass, Intel Core i5 or i7 CPUs, USB 3.0 support, an HDMI port and up to 12 hours of battery life abd compact Acer Keyboard . The chassis is constructed of aluminum and magnesium and at only 12mm thick, it certainly looks to be a winner.
Acer’s Aspire M3 Ultrabook includes a 14-inch or 15.6-inch touch-enabled display for Windows 8, Nvidia GT640M graphics, Intel Core series processor options and a backlit keyboard like the Dell Inspiron N4110 (Backlight) Keyboard . It’s not quite as thin as the S7 series but at 22mm, it still qualifies for Ultrabook status.
If you aren’t interested in an Ultrabook, Acer’s V5 notebook will be available with 14-inch and 15.6-inch touch displays, Intel Ivy Bridge chips and an optical drive. We are told that these systems will be available in a variety of colors as well.
The Aspire U is a 27-inch touchscreen AIO that operates at 1,920 x 1,080 – an admittedly low resolution for such a large screen. The display can be adjusted from 30 degrees up to 80 degrees and there’s even a swivel stand that tilts to 0 degrees. Other features include a TV tuner, HDMI-in and out, Blu-ray drive and a multi-in-one card reader. The Aspire U will also ship with Intel’s third generation Core processors.
Acer’s standalone Iconia W7 tablet has a large 11.6-inch display operating at 1,920 x 1,080, a 5-megapixel rear camera and up to eight hours of battery life. The tablet ships with a cradle that adds USB 3.0 functionality while an optional keyboard accessory will assist with data input.
The hybrid W5 utilizes a more common 10.1-inch display that can be swiveled around and laid flat over the keyboard or removed from the typing accessory completely. The 3G model includes microSD and microHDMI ports and Acer says this unit is good for up to 18 hours of battery life and up to six weeks of juice in stand-by.
We are still waiting for Acer to announce pricing for their Windows 8 lineup which might not happen until closer to launch.
